Browser extension

A download manager extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Opera

Click a download link and the Prism window is there in about a quarter of a second. The extension hands downloads, videos and links from your browser to the free Prism app, which fetches them over up to 32 connections and resumes them after a crash.

Free · works together with the Prism app for Windows, macOS and Linux

Prism's Download File window, opened by a click on a download link in the browser: file name, 3.7 GB size, resumable, save folder and category. Prism's Download File window in the light theme.

What it does

Your browser finds it. Prism downloads it.

The extension doesn’t download anything itself: it passes each download to the Prism app on your computer, which is much better at it than a browser.

Every click, captured

Click a link and the Download window opens with the file name, size and resume support known. Hold Alt to let the browser have it instead.

Your rules

File types, MIME types and sizes decide what Prism takes and what stays in the browser. Images stay in the browser unless you add them.

A button on every video

Hover a video for Download video, or open the popup to see every stream on the page. MP4 in the quality you want, or MP3.

Right-click menu

Download with Prism for one link, or grab all the links, images or videos on a page at once.

Signed-in downloads work

Files behind a login keep working: the site’s cookies go only to the Prism app on your own computer.

Updates by itself

From the Chrome Web Store, the extension stays up to date on its own in every Chromium browser.

Privacy

It talks only to your own computer.

For each download, the extension passes the address, the page it came from, the browser’s user agent and that site’s cookies to the Prism app — through the browser’s native messaging, never over the network. No servers, no analytics, no account.

FAQ

The extension, answered.

Something else? Ask in Discussions.

Does the extension work without the Prism app?

No. The extension hands downloads to the Prism app on your computer, which does the downloading. Without the app running, the browser keeps its downloads as usual. Both are free.

Which browsers does it work with?

Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Helium from the Chrome Web Store, and Firefox and Zen from Firefox Add-ons. Safari isn’t supported.

Is Prism in Firefox Add-ons?

Yes: Prism Download Manager in Firefox Add-ons, for Firefox 140 or later and Zen. Firefox keeps it up to date.

Why does the popup say “Not connected”?

Start Prism (it lives in the tray), then click Retry in the popup. Still failing? Open Prism → Settings → Browser integration → Repair, then restart the browser. Browsers installed as a Flatpak on Linux can’t talk to desktop apps at all.

Can I keep IDM’s or another download manager’s extension?

Keep only one of them turned on. Two extensions competing for the same download means neither works reliably.

What does the extension send, and where?

A download’s address, the page it came from, the browser’s user agent and that site’s cookies — only to the Prism app on your own computer, through native messaging. No network, no servers, no analytics.

One beam. Many rays.
